Creating a Sense of Safety Right Now

Feeling safe is an important part of calming the body and mind. This page offers gentle ways to support a sense of safety in the present moment, especially during times of stress, anxiety, or emotional intensity. You are invited to explore what helps you feel more at ease right now.

Noticing your environment

You might begin by gently noticing your surroundings and whether there are signs of safety around you.

You might notice:

  • Where you are right now

  • Whether you are physically safe in this moment

  • Objects or spaces that feel familiar or comforting

  • The presence of light, warmth, or quiet

Simply noticing can help your body feel more settled.

Supporting your body’s sense of safety

The body often responds before the mind. You might gently offer your body signals of care and steadiness.

You could try:

  • Sitting or standing in a position that feels supported

  • Wrapping yourself in a blanket or holding something comforting

  • Placing a hand on your chest or abdomen

  • Slowing your movements

Let your body guide what feels helpful.

Offering reassurance to yourself

You might quietly remind yourself that you are safe right now, even if emotions feel strong.

You could:

  • Name where you are and what time it is

  • Gently say reassuring words to yourself

  • Acknowledge that the moment will pass

  • Focus on what feels stable or steady

Reassurance does not need to be loud or convincing to be helpful.

A Few Helpful Tips
