Preparing for Transitions or Changes

Transitions and changes can bring a mix of emotions, even when they are expected or positive. This page offers a gentle space to reflect before or during times of change and to consider what might help you feel supported as things shift.

Noticing what is changing

Change can look many different ways. It might involve routines, relationships, environments, responsibilities, or internal shifts.

You might reflect on:

  • What feels different right now

  • What feels uncertain or unfamiliar

  • What you may be gaining or letting go of

There is no need to label change as good or bad.

What has helped during past transitions

You may want to gently recall times when you have navigated change before. Even if those times were difficult, noticing what helped can offer reassurance.

You might notice:

  • People who offered support

  • Routines that provided stability

  • Practices that helped you ground

  • Strengths you relied on

You are allowed to draw from past experience without reliving it.

Identifying what feels supportive right now

During change, support needs may shift. You might consider what feels most helpful in this moment rather than what you think you should do.

Support might include:

  • Extra rest or slower pacing

  • Checking in with someone you trust

  • Creating small points of structure

  • Giving yourself patience and flexibility

Small supports can make transitions feel more manageable.

A Few Helpful Tips

  • Change can affect you even when it is planned

  • You do not need to have everything figured out

  • Support needs can shift over time

  • Taking things one step at a time is enough

A Gentle Reminder

You are allowed to move through change at your own pace.
